UPDATE
March 5, 2010: ELUSIVE GALAXY, purchased by Kern Thoroughbreds for a Three Chimneys Racing partnershp, ran a fast closing third in an Allowance going down the hill at Santa Anita March 5, 2010. The filly was settled toward the back of the pack early, off a very slow pace for the downhill course. With not much to run at, ELUSIVE GALAXY still came flying on the outside and missed second place by a jump. She will likley be pointed to a grade stake in early April.

February 15, 2010: In her first start since being purchased by Joe Miller and Alastair Donald in the fall of 2009, 4-year old GRIPSHOLM CASTLE ran a very solid 1 1/8th miles in the G2 La Canada S. to finish second. She and eventual winner Striking Dancer ran head to head briefly in the stretch before the winner pulled away for an approximate 1.5 length win. Purchased for Triple B Farm, the filly is trained by Ben Cecil.

December 28, 2009: Purchased by Kern Lillingston from the 2009 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training sale, two-year old THOMAS BAINES gave a holiday gift to his new owner when he became stakes-placed in his first race in the US - the Eddie Logan S. at Santa Anita Park on December 28th, 2009. The Johannesburg ex Foofraw gelding made a solid run, chasing down three rivals to finish 3rd in the one-mile turf race. Purchased for 19,000 gns, Thomas Baines is owned by AJL Productions and trained by Doug O’Neill.

December 26, 2009Running in the G1 La Brea S. at Santa Anita, G2 winner STARLARKS ran off the pace for the first 6 furlongs and made a tremendous 4-wide run in the stretch to finish 2nd. Purchased by Joe Miller and Alastair Donald from the 2008 Tattersalls Horses in Training sale, the talented 2006 Mujahid ex Violet (Mukaddamah) filly was purchased for Dolantori Racing and won the G2 San Clemente H. in August of 2009.

Also, Harlequin Ranches’ graded-stakes winning SPICE ROUTE looked like the winner in the G2 W.L. McKnight H. at Calder Race Course on December 26, 2009, but could not hold off the eventual winner, CLOUDY’S KNIGHT, to place second in the one-and-a-half mile turf race. The five-year old gelding by Kings Best ex Zanzibar is trained by Roger Attfield.

And, MALIBU KNIGHT won his first outing in a $24,700 MSP at Calder Race Course on December 26, 2009. The 07 Malibu Moon ex Tumble Me Right (JPN) colt was bred by Richard C. Colton, Jr. who continues to own the mare – a 2000 Forty Niner ex Ittisaal. MALIBU KNIGHT is the mare’s first runner.

October 28, 2009: Purchased 2 weeks before the Breeders’ Cup, MAN OF IRON won the BC Marathon on Friday, November 6, 2009, giving Kern Lillingtston back to back winners in this championship race. MUHANNAK, who was bred by Luke Lillingston’s Mount Coote Stud and purchased by the Kern Lillingston Association for a client won the inaugural running of the Marathon in 2008. IRON MAN is a 3-year old Giants Causeway colt who is a half to racing stars JAZIL and RAGS TO RICHES. He had looked to be a fast improving colt after winning a conditions race at Dundalk and came to the Breeders’ Cup under the training of Aiden O’Brien.  Since winning the Marathon, his has been transferred to Luca Cumani’s barn where he will be pointed to the Dubai Carnival.

August 31, 2009: Lincoln Collins, in conjunctionwith Luke Lillingston, purchased AMBER TIDE as a yearling at the1999 Tattersalls October sale. They had purchased her half-sister, UNCHARTED HAVEN, at the same sale in 1998 and UNCHARTED HAVEN went on to become a multiple Grade 2 winner, including victories in the G2 San Clemente H. at Del Mar and the G2 San Gorgonio H. at Santa Anita. In her career AMBER TIDE, by Pusuit of Love ex Tochar Ban, landed in the money several times, but never saw the winner’s circle. It seems she was saving that honor for her 2004 colt by Ishiguru, named  FERNELEY. The bay colt is trained by Ben Cecil and won the $300,000 G2 Del Mar H on August 29, 2009.

August 22, 2009: Russian Rosie returned to form in an $84,500 AOC at Woodbine on August 22, 2009. Making a strong move in the late stretch, the filly swept by pacesetter, Sheraton Park, and drew off to a 1 3/4 length win.

August 11, 2009: The old sports line, “the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat” came to mind on August 10th after watching the Signature Stallion S. at Saratoga. Four-year old ZASKAR (Anaaba ex Bezzaaf), purchased by Joe Miller of Kern Thoroughbreds, took the lead out of the gate in the 1 ½ mile inner turf race, and opened her advantage to 8 lengths  at the mile marker. With a half mile to go, QUEEN OF HEARTS began closing the gap and the two ran head to head in deep stretch with ZASKAR meeting the challenge stride for stride – but losing the head bob at the wire.  A tough way to lose, but ZAKSKAR’s toughness and endurance will no doubt bring success this season.

August 10, 2009: Multiple Grade 1 winner, COMMENTATOR, has been retired after a third place finish in the G1 Whitney H. at Saratoga on August 8, 2009. Owned by Tracy Farmer and managed by Kern Thoroughbreds, the two-time winner of the Whitney H. (2005 and 2008) has earned over $2 million in his five years of racing. According to trainer Nick Zito, the 8-year old gelding is very sound and in good health. “There’s nothing wrong with him other than his age,” said Zito adding, “He’s as gallant as he could be. He’s a real treasure.” (TDN, August 10, 2009)

Kern Thoroughbreds president, Lincoln Collins, added, “He’s brought so much joy and excitement to his connections and to racing fans. We want him to wrap up his career on a good note, healthy and sound. As a multiple Grade 1 winner, he really has nothing left to prove.”  Future plans for COMMENTATOR have not yet been announced.

June 20, 2009: Sent off at 20/1, most in the betting crowd at Royal Ascot seemed to have forgotten what ART CONNOISSEUR and his trainer, Michael Bell, remembered – that the 2008 Coventry S. winner (2008) likes running at Royal Ascot. The 2006 colt by Lucky Story made a strong run up the rail to beat the American CANNONBALL in the Group 1 Golden Jubilee S. at Royal Ascot on June 20, 2009. Although ART CONNOISSEUR’s last two performances had been decidedly lackluster, Bell’s decision to pursue sprint distances was a strategic bulls-eye. ART CONNOISSEUR was purchased by Kern Lillingston Association from the 2007 Tattersalls October Yearling sale for 55,000 guineas.

June 13, 2009A stakes winner and two other winners made for happy connections of Kern Lillingston horses over the June 13th, 2009 weekend. Tracy Farmer’s wonder horse, COMMENTATOR, won the Kashatreya S. at Belmont June 12th in his familiar style, taking the lead and never looking back.  Trainer Nick Zito will likely point the eight-year old, multiple Grade 1 winner to the G1 Whitney H. which Commentator has won twice. The gelding is managed by Kern Thoroughbreds.

The fun wasn’t over for Farmer, as his APACHE  HONOR won a $30,000 Claiming race at Arlington Park on June 12th and MOLLY MOON won a $25,000 Claiming race at Presque Isle Downson June 13th.

Three Chimneys Racing LLC’s multiple Allowance winner, RUSSIAN ROSIE, finished 4th in the Possibly Perfect S. at Arlington Park on June 13th.

May 2, 2009: After 9 months away, DIAMOND DIVA returned to the track in the G3 Wilshire H. at Hollywood Park on May 2nd. Showing she hasn't lost any of her desire to run, she stalked the pace early and fought between horses in the stretch to place second.

April 25, 2009: Kern Lillingston wrapped up the Keeneland spring meet on a high note with the running of the Grade 2 Elkhorn S. SPICE ROUTE, purchased in the fall of 2008, won the 1 ½ mile turf race by 2 lengths and  did it in a very professional style. The five year old rated in mid pack through the first 7 furlongs, charged between rivals at the top of the stretch and drew away to win by 2 lengths. Owned by Harlequine Ranches, R. Johnson and Roger Attfield, the horse will likely be pointed toward a stake in Canada.

April 16, 2009: In her first start back since March of 2008 when she ran in the Grade 2 Bonnie Miss S., HALO HOLLIE proved she was glad to be back. Running in a $50,000 ALW at Aqueduct on April 16th, the 4-year old filly finished second, must the best of the rest of the field. Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, Halo Hollie is owned by Richard Colton and Three Chimneys Racing, LLC.

April 4, 2009: The first weekend in April spelled victory and good racing for horses purchased by Kern Lillingston. Most notable was ACTING LADY, purchased at the 2007 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. The 2006 Theatrical ex Lady Fairfax filly won the Grade 2 Providencia S. at Santa Anita on April 4, 2009. Not too far behind her was Three Chimneys Racing’s PASAR SILBANO, placing 3rd in the race. The 2006 Elnadim ex Give A Whistle filly was purchased privately by the Association in 2008. Another Kern Lillingston purchase, ROSY MANTLE, ran 4-wide for most of the Providencia’s one-mile turf distance and finished 5th, missing 4th place by a neck. Both PASAR SILBANO AND ROSY MANTLE are managed by Kern Thoroughbreds.

Also on April 4th, two horses managed by Kern Lillingston, DIXIE MEISTER  and EMBOSSED, finished 3rd in their races at Santa Anita and Keeneland respectively.  And on Friday, April 3rd, Kern Lillingston-purchased AXEL FOLEY finished a strong 3rd in his $46,000 Allowance race at Aqueduct.

March 11, 2009: ROSY MANTLE'S first run in the US for her new owners, Three Chimneys Racing LLC, came up as a very tough Allowance race at Santa Anita, so they were understandably a bit nervous. But nerves turned to celebration when the 3 year old filly left the field behind and won the $68,000 race by 1 1/4 lengths. Ridden by Rafael Bejarano and trained by Ben Cecil, the filly will likely be pointed to a stake next out.

Februray 1, 2009
: Recently purchased three-year old, PASAR SILBANO, won the Grade 3 La Habra S. in her second start for Three Chimneys Racing LLC on February 1, 2009. In addition to taking the lead early in the 6 and 1/2 furlong run, the filly won by 1 3/4 lengths and missed setting a stakes record at Santa Anita by only one one-hundreth of a second. Super Freaky won the La Habra S. in 2007 with a time of 1:12.66; Pasar Silbano won the race in 1:12.67. The filly is trained by Jim Cassidy.

January 30, 2009: And after a disappointing run in the Maple Leaf S. at Woodbine in November, RUSSIAN ROSIE won a $46,000 Allowance race at Gulfstream on January 30th. The five-year old mare won by a length and trainer Roger Attfield may consider a stakes race for her next outing.

January 17, 2009: In his first race back since his win in the Lane's End Breeder's Futurity at Keeneland in October, 2008, SQUARE EDDIE ran second to The Pamplemousse in the January 17, 2009 San Raphael S., G3, at Santa Anita. Sent off as the 3 to 5 favorite, Square Eddie was much the best of the rest beating 3rd place finisher Ryehill Dreamer by 2 3/4 lengths. Trainer Doug O'Neil was confident that the horse will move forward from the race.

December 12, 2008:  Purchased by Kern Lillingston for Three Chimneys Racing LLC in partnership with Richard Bonnycastle, CALLWOOD DANCER was named Canada's Female Turf Champion of 2008 at the Sovereign Awards event on Friday evening, December 12, 2008.
With 171 votes, the 2004 Danehill Dancer ex Ahdaab filly was 3 for 7 in 2008, including a win in the Nassau Stakes (G2) and runner-up finishes in both the Canadian (G2) and the E.P. Taylor (G1), finishing in front of Sealy Hill on both occasions. She finished off the season with a close fourth in the Cardinal Handicap (G3) at Churchill Downs. Her trainer Roger Attfield accepted the award on behalf of Three Chimneys Racing and Richard Bonnycastle.

October 25, 2008:  The premier of the Bessemer Trust Breeders Cup Grade 1 Juvenile race did not disappoint when SQUARE EDDIE moved quickly out of the gate and was soon joined by MIDSHIPMAN.  The two dueled through the first quarter mile and Midshipman pulled away in the final furlong. Square Eddie place second in the Grade 1 Championship race.

October 4, 2008: It was only in 2006 that trainer John Best began shopping at the Keeneland Septemer sale and in 2007 he asked Joe Miller of Kern Thoroughbreds to help him select some yearlings from that sale. One of those selected by Miller was a Smart Strike ex Forty Gran colt now named SQUARE EDDIE. A winner of one race in England, Sqaure Eddie stamped himself as a lover of the all-weather suface, winning the Grade 1 Lane’s End Futurity at Keeneland on October 4th. The colt ran just off the leaders until the top of the stretch when he took the lead and drew away for a 4 ¾ length win. Square Eddie. Purchased for $200,000, the colt has now earned over $341,000 and will be point toward the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Stake at Santa Anita on October 25th.

September 20, 2008Tracy Farmer’s “child”, as he describes his 7-year old gelding named COMMENTATOR, continued his winning ways September 20, when he won the $500,000 Massachusetts H. at Suffolk Downs by 14 lengths.  The Distorted Humor ex Outsource (Storm Bird) multiple G1 winner carried high weight of 122 pounds. After stalking the pace early, Commentator took the lead in the second turn and pulled away easily with a hand ride by jockey John Velazquez.

August 15, 2008: Newly purchased ROSA GRACE didn’t disappoint in her first start in the US for new owners Three Chimneys Racing LLC. The Lomitas(GB) – Night Haven (GB) filly entered the $150,000 Lake Placid S. only a week out of quarantine and proved herself to be ready for her new rivals. After being pinched back and then steadied in the first furlong, jockey Julien Leparoux settle Rosa Grace at the back of the pack until the early stretch run. The filly kicked in a strong rally for second place, beating I Lost My Choo and Raw Silk among others.

August 10, 2008: Three Chimneys Racing-owned filly RUSSIAN ROSIE returned to her winning ways on August 10th with a decisive win in an $69,000 Allowance race at Woodbine.  The four-year old Irish-bred stalked the pace and made her bid in mid stretch to take the race by a half length. Trained by Roger Attfield, Russian Rosie previously finished 5th in the Tattling S. at Woodbine, 2nd in an $80,000 Allowance race at that track, and 1st in a tough Allowance at Keeneland in April, 2008.

July 27, 2008: Tracy Farmer- owner COMMENTATOR joined an historic and elite group of only two other horses when he won the G1 Whitney H. at Saratoga on July 26th for the second time. Having taken the top Grade 1 race from eventually Horse Of The Year, Saint Liam, in 2005, Commentator wired the 2008 running  of the Whitney and won by 4 ¾ lengths. The win also provides the 7-year old gelding with an automatic spot in the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

The weekend held further excitement with Royal Ascot Group 2 winner ART CONNOISSEUR, purchased by Kern Lillingston as a yearling, placing 2nd in the Group 1 Phoenix S. at The Curragh and multiple Group 1 winner PRESSING placing 2nd in the Group 1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis-Bayerisches Zuchtrennen.

AINAMMA, a four-year old  purchased for trainer Ben Cecil clients, won the $68,400 Allowance race at Del Mar on July 27th. Also at Del Mar, G2 winner MISSIT placed 4th in the G2 San Clemente S. at Del Mar on the 26th.

Breeding stock purchased by Kern Lillingston also had successful runners over the weekend. GYPSY’S WARNING, sired by Kern Lillingston-purchased Mogok, won the G1 Thekwini S. in South Africa. ZIRCONEUM, sired by Kern Lillingston-purchased Jallad, placed second in the same Grade 1.
July 16, 2008: Grade 3 placed CODEWORD dominantely won the $58,000 Allowance at Belmont for owners Sovereign Stables and Gatsas Stables. The colt is trained by John Terranova. He was purchased from the Tattersalls Horses In Training Sale by Joe Miller and Alastair Donald.

July 5, 2008: DIAMOND DIVA continued to prove herself on July 5, 2008 when she nipped Grade 1 winning Ventura at the wire to win the Grade 2 Cash Call Mile at Hollywood Park. The four-year old filly, which was purchased by Kern Lillingston for Three Chimneys Racing LLC, was steadied early and ran three-wide in the first turn before stalking the pace into the stretch. She took the lead momentarily, lost it to eventual runner-up Ventura and fought back gamely for the win. With her third win in four starts for Three Chimneys Racing and with earning now over $700,000, the filly has given her new connections much to smile about.

May 27, 2008: At Hollywood Park on May 26th, DIAMOND DIVA became Grade 1 placed with a second place finish in the G1 Gamely S. The Grade 3 winner took the lead early and stretched her lead to 4 lengths before being overtaken in mid-stretch by multiple G1 winner Precious Kitten. On the same day at Belmont Park, Kern Thoroughbreds-managed COMMENTATORfinished second in the G1 Metropolitan H. The Grade 1 winner lead into the deep stretch but was beaten 1 ½ lengths by Divine Park. He was much the better of the rest of the field by over 3 lengths.

May 19, 2008: RUSSIAN ROSIE showed why her owners are excited about her with her stretch run for second in an $80,000 Allowance race at Woodbine on May 19, 2008. Coming off a solid Allowance win at Keeneland on April 23rd, the four-year filly old broke well but was made to rate at the back of the pack through the first half mile. Then finding herself behind a wall of traffic, jockey Emile Ramsammy took her three-wide to begin her rally,  running past all but one to finish second beaten about 2 ½ lengths.  Owned by Three Chimneys Racing LLC, trainer Roger Attfield will point her toward a similar condition going 9F or a stake race on the east coast.

April 23, 2008: Coming off of an impressive win the American Beauty S. at Santa Anita on March 30th, DIAMOND DIVA stepped up her game and won the Grade 3 Wilshire H. at Hollywood Park on April 23rd. She stalked the pace in the one-mile turf race and is now two for two in 2008.  RUSSIAN ROSIE, 2004 filly by Traditionally ex Pink Sovietstaia, won a tough Allowance race at Keeneland on April 23, 2008 for Three Chimneys Racing LLC.  Battling through traffic, she managed a drive in the stretch to win the one mile race by a nose. Purchased and managed by Kern Thoroughbreds, the filly is trained by Roger Attfield and will likely see her next action at Woodbine.

April 19, 2008:  FOXYSOX seems to have found her groove again with a win in the Grade 2 Santa Barbara H. on Saturday, April 19. 2008. The five-year old mare, owned by Warren Williamson, stalked the pace into  the second turn, racing three deep and then moving three wide in the drive to win the $200,000 contest by a nose. The Santa Barbara is the second Grade 2 win for the Foxhound mare who also has two Grade 3 wins under her belt. Trainer Carla Gaines will likely point Foxysox next toward a Grade 1 race.

April 5, 2008: In her first outing for her new owners, Three Chimneys Racing LLC, three-year old MISSIT won the Grade 2 Providencia S. at Santa Anita on April 5th, 2008. Purchased privately by Kern Lillingston for the partnership in December 2007, the filly raced off the pace in the early going, maintaining her position into the stretch. With jockey Victor Espinoza up, she made an impressive stretch run to beat second choice Sweeter Still by a nose.  This was the first Grade II for 3YO fillies on the grass in the U.S. this year and Missit has stamped herself as the best in the west after this win! Stablemate EXCITEMENT, also purchased by Kern Lillingston for Three Chimneys Racing LLC, made a good showing in her first start since November when she ran third in an $80,000 Allowance at Santa Anita on April 6th. Both fillies are trained by Ben Cecil.

March 30, 2008: Purchased for  Three Chimneys Racing LLC at the 2007 Tattersalls December sale, DIAMOND DIVA made her first start on US soil a race to remember when she won the American Beauty H. at Santa Anita on March 30th. The four-year old filly had been stakes-placed in England and settled in well with trainer Jim Cassidy after being purchased by Lincoln Collins and Alastair Donald. She is by Dansili ex Viviana (GB).

February 9, 2008: Racing against a very tough field that included Better Talk Now and Inca King, Richard Colton’s JAZZ QUEST proved he belongs in that company when he placed second in the Grade 3 Fair Grounds H. on Saturday, February 9th. Always within striking distance in the 1 1/8 mile on the turf, Jazz Quest moved 3 wide around the second turn and closed with enthusiasm to take second place. Purchased privately by Lincoln Collins in the spring of 2007 and trained by Tom Amoss, the 4-year old Jambalaya Jazz colt will likely be pointed toward the Mervyn Munoz S.
During the same weekend, MEER KAT, purchased by Kern Lillingston from the 2007 Tattersalls Horses In Training sale, placed third in the $100,000 Turf Paradise Derby S., which was run at 1 1/16 miles on the dirt.
And graded stakes winner FOXYSOX, also purchased by Kern Lillingston, placed third in the Wishing Well 11 H. at Santa Anita.

January 27, 2008: Purchased as a two-year old in 2007, three-year old YANKEE BRAVO overcame traffic trouble to win the California Derby on January 27, 2008 and remain undefeated. The Yankee Victor colt spent much the first half of the 8.5 furlong race trailing the 12 horse field, but unleashed an exciting run in the stretch after being taken 3-wide by jockey Alex Solis. Trained by Paddy Gallagher, this was the colt's first effort on a synthetic surface. It is likely he will next be pointed to the Sam or the San Felipe.

January 12, 2008:  2006 Yearling purchase, BORDEAUX BANDIT, won a $40,000 Maiden Special Weight going away at Gulfstream Park on January 12, 2008. See our Yearlings section for more details.
Racehorse purchased and graded stakes winner, FOXYSOX, placed 3rd in the Paseana H . at Santa Anita on January 14th.
