Updates from the New Year
Fasig-Tipton February Sale is a Success
Usually the Fasig Tipton February Mixed sale is a quiet one for us, but this year it was anything but that. We Purchased 11 horses for a total of $442,500 at the one day sale. The majority of the broodmares and broodmare prospects that were purchased were for a client to support his own stallion, Simmard. We purchased Simmard privately last year and he went on to win a couple of Graded stakes before a small suspensory injury derailed his racing career. He now will be given a great chance in the breeding shed. For more information on the son of Dixieland Band, feel free to give us a call.

Forte Dei Marmi wins a tough allowance race and will move onto stakes company.

October 16, 2011: Purchased for Three Chimneys Racing LLC, owners and fans of MISS KELLER know that when the 5 year old mare runs, nail-biting abounds. Her back of the pack to 1st by a head win in the $1 million Grade 1 E.P. Taylor S. at Woodbine on October 16, 2011 was no different. MISS KELLER galloped along in 10th place through the first three quarters of the mile and a quarter race. Launching her drive late in the turn and clear of the field, the Montjeu ex Ingozi mare steadily passed rivals and grabbed the lead from I’M A DREAMER just in time to win by a head. With earnings of over $1.2 million, the mare is scheduled to Tattersalls’ December Breeding Stock sale this fall.

Also on October 16th another Kern Lillingston purchase took the Grade 3 Harold Ramser S. at Santa Anita. UP IN TIME, a 2008 filly by Noverre ex Up At Dawn, put her previously disappointing start in the Del Mar Oaks behind her with a commanding 1 ¼ length win over CELESTIAL KITTEN. Also owned by Three Chimneys Racing and Anthony Ramsden, trainer Simon Callaghan is pointing Up In Time toward the Matriarch S in November.

October 9, 2011: Tracy Farmer's LA GRAN BAILADORA has added to her graded stakes accomplishments with a rousing 3rd place finish in the Grade 1 Juddmonte Spinster S at Keenelandon October 9, 2011. With her late running style, the 4 year old filly tracked along in 11th place going into the stretch where jockey Corey Lanerie swung her 6 wide to finish third, just 1 and 3/4 lengths off the winner. She may run next in the Maple Leaf S at Woodbine.

October 1, 2011: After a slow start out of the gate to place 6th in her first North American outing in September of 2011, privately purchased JANICELLAINE improved her performance on October 1st when she place second by a nose to SkyMesa filly MASKED MAIDEN in a $70,3000 Allowance race at Woodbine. The 2008 Beat Hollow ex Danielle (Danehill) filly took the lead early in the one mile plus race on the all weather track but drifted on the far turn and battled back from 4th running in the stretch to just miss the win. Owned by Three Chimneys Racing LLC, the filly is trained by Roger Attfield.

September 24, 2011: Managed by Kern Thoroughbreds for Tracy Farmer, 4-year old LA GRAN BAILADORAhas, to this point, been a very useful horse, winning at the Stakes level and being Graded Stakes placed. But on September 25 at Turfway Park, she moved past “useful” to Graded Stakes Winner when she took the G3 Distorted Humor Kentucky Cup Distaff Safter flying past the field in the final three-eighths of the 1 and 1/16th mile race. The 2007 AFLEET ALEX filly out of Affirmed Dancer, had most recently placed 3rd in the G3 Matron S at Arlington Park and finished 5th in the G3 Doubledogdare S at Keeneland on April 22nd. Early in 2011 she won the Likely Exchange S on February 12th and placed second and third respectively in the March 12th Wintergreen S and the Fairway Fun S on April 2nd. Trained by Michael Maker and ridden by Corey Lanerie, it seems LA GRAN BAILADORA has decided to show that she’s more than useful – she has what it takes.

June 3, 2011: ANTARA has either won or been in the money in all but one of her graded stakes efforts since being purchased privately in 2010 for Godolphin Racing. On June 3, 2011, she won the G3 Princess Elizabeth S for the second year in a row after being G1 and G2 placed in the summer and fall of 2010. The Diktat ex City Maiden mare will likely be pointed to the G1 Pretty Polly S at the Currage in late June.

May 21, 2011: Once again, Kern Lillingston's experience and success with buying broodmares to produce top class racehorses and future breeding stock was proven when we purchased OATSEE in 2008. She had recently weaned her Foresty foal that would later be named SHACKLEFORD and who would go on to win the 2011 G1 Preakness S. on May 21st. The 1997 mare, by Unbridled ex With Every Wish is also the dam of multiple G2 winner BAGHDARIA an multple stakes winner LADY JOANNE.

April 9, 2011: Whisper Louise G2 placed in first US start - After being purchased from England by Lincoln Collins and Joe Miller for Three Chimneys Racing, 3 year old WHISPER LOUISE made her first US start worth remembering when she placed second in theGrade 2 Providencia S at Santa Anita on April 9th. The Chevalier ex Patamar filly bumped with a rival out of the gate and ran keenly early, but settled well in the back stretch. Coming into the stretch, she showed an explosive turn of foot 3-wide and missed the win by only ¾ lengths. Trainer Jim Cassidy will likely consider the G3 Senorita S at Hollywood Park for the multiple winner’s next outing.

January 12, 2011: Collins Buys MSW PRINCESS JANIE at Keeneland January Sale - After watching AVE, whom he purchased in 2009 for a racing partnership, go through the ring for a sale-topping $1.4 million, Lincoln Collins returned the the Keeneland January sale on Day 2 to purchase multiple stakes winner PRINCESS JANIE for $330,000 on behalf of Kern Lillingston Association for an undisclosed client. Purchased in foal to TIZNOW, Collins stated that the foal will probably remain in the US and the mare will be sent to England after being bred here.

January 10, 2011: Ave Tops Keeneland January Sale - Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational winner AVE gave her owners, Three Chimneys Racing LLC and Trevor Harris, one final thrill when she sold at the Keeneland January Sale for $1.4 million, the highest price of the 5 day sale. Purchased by Teruya Yoshida’s Shadai Farm, the Danehill Dancer ex Anna Amalia filly had recently returned from Japan’s Kyoto Racecourse where she ran in the JPN G1 Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup and wrapped up an impressive 2010 campaign.

Bought privately by Lincoln Collins in the fall of 2009, Ave wasted no time in verifying her purchase when she finished 3rd in the G3 Gallorette H at Pimlico in May and the G2 New York S at Belmont in June 2010. She was just nosed out of a win in the G2 Dance Smartly S at Woodbine in July by MEKONGMELODY. One can only wonder about her clunker in the G1 Beverly D, but she more than redeemed herselfwith her stunning run and win in the G1 Flower Bowl Invitational. Upon purchasing AVE, Shadai Farm announced that she would be retired to begin her breeding career.

November 7, 2010: Three Chimneys Racing filly, RUSSIAN ROSIE, will go to the Keeneland November sale on Wednesday, November 10th as Hip #508. In hermost recent outing at Woodbine, a $76,000 Allowance Optional Claiming race, the 2004 mare was hustled 8 wide into the stretch and made a rally but was left with too much work to do and finished 9th. The mare earned over $242,000 while in the Three Chimneys Racing stable.

November 5, 2010: MISS KELLER’s run in the Grade 1 Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf on November 5th saw her bump with the turf course hedge and another horse to come in 9th in the $2 million championship. Ridden by Javier Castellano, MISS KELLER broke from post position 3 and settle toward the back of the pack in her normal fashion, but her famously quick and strong turn of foot provided only a mild gain before being hindered by traffic. The 4 year old Monjeu filly will go through the Keeneland November sale on Monday, Novmber 8th as Hip #211. She has earned over $588,000 as a member of the Three Chimneys Racing stable.

October 16, 2010: Horses purchased by Kern Lillingston place second and third in top graded stakes races over the October 16, 2010 weekend. MISS KELLER, at G2 winner, ran against a genuinely tough field in the Grade 1 E.P. Taylor S. at Woodbine on October 16th. After rating in midpack, the mare closed in the upper stretch to take the lead but was passed in the final stages by REGGANE and finished second. MISSIT, also a G2 winner, placed 3rd in the G3 Athenia S. at Belmont Park on October 16th after being raced wide through a majority of the mile and one-sixteenth turf course. She produced a strong rally in the stretch for the show.

Both mares are trained by Roger Attfield and owned by Three Chimneys Racing.

October 2, 2010: For the second time in two weeks, the Three Chimneys Racing syndicate has cheered one of their fillies on to a graded stakes win. The most recent celebration was for AVE’S heart-stopping victory in the G1 Flower Bowl Invitational S at Belmont Park. The 4 year old Danehill Dancer filly tracked a very slow pace into the final turn where she made up a bit of ground but found herself in tight behind the leaders, RED DESIRE and CHANGING SKIES. When jockey Javier Castellano spied the small ray of sunlight between the fillies, he hand rode AVE through the hole to take the $500,000 Grade 1 by a head. No doubt, the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf championship is being considered for AVE’S next outing.

September 25, 2010: Horses purchased for Three Chimneys Racing LLC had their owners cheering heartily with two races and two wins over the September 26th weekend. First up on September 25th was 5 year old MISSIT, who had taken the G2 Providenica S at Santa Anita in 2008 but recently had finished 2nd or 3rd in high end Allowance races. Running in a $80,000 AOC mile on the turf at Woodbine, the Orpen mare sat comfortably just off the pace until the stretch where she found that extra gear and powered past the favorite, SUGAR AGAIN, who had won her last 3 races. Ridden by Jono Jones, the filly may go to the G3 Athenia at Belmont for her next outing.

The next afternoon saw the return to racing of RUSSIAN ROSIE, one of Three Chimneys Racing LLCs most consistent winners. The 6 year old mare had been side-lined in the fall of 2009, but on September 26th her 364 day absence from the racetrackbecame a distant memory as she sat off of a dawdling pace and came flying in the stretch of the mile and one-sixteenth on all weather track to win by one and a half lengths.

September 19, 2010: MISS KELLER has shown her quick turn of foot in past races, being multiple graded stakes placed and having won the De La Rose S. at Saratoga in August. But she showed somethingmore in winning the CAN G2 Canadian S. at Woodbine on September 19th.

Breaking quickly from the gate in the 9 furlong turf race, jockey Javier Castellano settled the 4 year old bay filly behind the 3 front runners.Heading into the stretch, she moved forward but was boxed in and one wondered how the filly would find room to kick on. Not deterred, MISS KELLER split horses without a blink, showing her bravery in going through an almost microscopic opening between POINTS OF GRACE and LATIN LOVE.Latin Loves effort to stay with the filly was short lived as MISS KELLER found another gear and in the final sixteenth flew to a 1 and three-quarter length win.

Trained by Roger Attfield, MISS KELLER increasedher earnings to over $434,900.

August 28, 2010: MISS KELLER faced a tough field in Saratoga’s Ballston Spa H. on August 28th and continued to prove that she belongs in top company. With a good start, jockey Javier Castellano let the filly settle toward the back of the field where, at the quarter pole, she began her rally down the center of the course. The Montjeu filly gobbled up the ground in her speedy turn of foot fashion, but could not catch the winner. She placed 3rd to winner Dynaslew and 2nd placed Silver Reunion. The filly will most likely head to Woodbine for her next outing.

August 13, 2010: A day of seconds is how Friday, the 13th will be remembered for Three Chimneys Racing LLC. PASAR SILBANO, trained by Jim Cassidy, was impressive in her first start since January as she stalked the pace in the $83,000 Daisycutter S., and took the lead in the stretch only to be caught at the wire and missing the win by a nose. MISSIT, running in an AOC at Woodbine on the same day, also stalked the pace and rallied in the stretch to place second by 1 3/4 lengths in the $80,000 turf race.

August 4, 2010: To quote Kern Thoroughbreds agent Joe Miller, “Few things are better than winning a race at a place like Saratoga, especially when it’s a stakes race and we have an excited group of owners to celebrate with.” And MISS KELLER, who Miller helped purchase for Three Chimneys Racing LLC, provided her owners with a genuine thrill when, laying in 8th place at the ¾ pole, she advanced easily under jockey Javier Castellano, moved 4-wide in the turn and showed an explosive kick in the stretch to win the De La Rose S. by a length. MISS KELLER, by Montjeu ex Ingozi, is trained by Roger Attfield and will be pointed to the G2 Ballston S also at Saratoga.

June 6, 2010: Purchased as a yearling and managed by Kern Thoroughbreds, FORMAGGIO is raced by My Meadowview LLC. He is an Allowance winner. The 2007 Dynaformer ex Garden Spot colt won a $50,000 Allowance race at Churchill Downs on June 6th despite circling 5-wide in the 1 1/16 mile race.

July 18, 2010: AVE's second place finish in the G2 Dance Smartly S. at Woodbine was a tale of julilation and heartache. It was thrilling to see the filly run so strongly against a good field and launch her rally in the stretch. It was a heartache to see her run out of ground, missing the win by a nose. The filly showed that she belongs in top company and will run next in the G1 Beverely D at Arlington Park on August 21st.

May 1, 2010: MISS KELLER, purchased privately for Three Chimneys Racing in 2009, returned to graded stakes company on Saturday, May 1st in the G2 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile. Racing in a field of several grades stakes winners, including 2 G1 winners, the 2006 Montju mare settled along the inside until the top of the stretch where she made a 3-wide drive to take 3rd, besting DIAMONDRELLA and TIZAQUEENA among others. MISS KELLER is now trained by Roger Attfield and will be pointed toward graded stakes at Woodbine.

April 7, 2010: WYNCHASE, purchased for Wyn Racing, broke her maiden in a MSW at Keeneland on April 7th. The four-year old mare by Dixie Union ex Ghost Wrestling, took the lead early in the 1 1/16th mile race and, though brushed in the late stretch, hung on for the win.

April 7, 2010: MISS KELLER, purchased for a Three Chimneys Racing partnership, won the Allowance race at Keeneland in her first start back since November 14 of last year. The four-year old mare hopped out of the gate and settled at the bak of the pack before advancing along the inside and going between horses to run down the leader in the final yards for a win.

March 20, 2010: HALO HOLLIE
won the $43,000 Allowance at Philadelphia Park on March 20th and surprised her connections when she took the lead early and opened up a 3 length lead into the stretch, holding off eventual 2nd placed Bright Abyss to win by a nose.
Purchased for Three Chimneys Racing LLC and Richard C. Colton, Jr. in March 2008, the Halo's Image ex Hold the Dream 5 year-old ahd placed twice since then and now seems to have returned to her previous winning form. Trained by John Servis, HALO HOLLIE will likely run next at the 2010 Keeneland Spring meet.

March 5, 2010: ELUSIVE GALAXY, purchased by Kern Thoroughbreds for a Three Chimneys Racing partnership, ran a fast closing third in an Allowance going down the hill at Santa Anita March 5, 2010. The filly was settled toward the back of the pack early, off a very slow pace for the downhill course. With not much to run at, ELUSIVE GALAXY still came flying on the outside and missed second place by a jump. She will likley be pointed to a grade stake in early April.

February 15, 2010: In her first start since being purchased by Joe Miller and Alastair Donald in the fall of 2009, 4-year old GRIPSHOLM CASTLE ran a very solid 1 1/8th miles in theG2 La Canada S. to finish second. She and eventual winner Striking Dancer ran head to head briefly in the stretch before the winner pulled away for an approximate 1.5 length win. Purchased for Triple B Farm, the filly is trained by Ben Cecil.

December 28, 2009: Purchased by Kern Lillingston from the 2009 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training sale, two-year old THOMAS BAINES gave a holiday gift to his new owner when he became stakes-placed in his first race in the US - the Eddie Logan S. at Santa Anita Park on December 28th, 2009. The Johannesburg ex Foofraw gelding made a solid run, chasing down three rivals to finish 3rd in the one-mile turf race. Purchased for 19,000 gns, Thomas Baines is owned by AJL Productions and trained by Doug O’Neill.

December 26, 2009: Running in the G1 La Brea S. at Santa Anita, G2 winner STARLARKS ran off the pace for the first 6 furlongs and made a tremendous 4-wide run in the stretch to finish 2nd. Purchased by Joe Miller and Alastair Donald from the 2008 Tattersalls Horses in Training sale, the talented 2006 Mujahid ex Violet (Mukaddamah) filly was purchased for Dolantori Racing and won the G2 San Clemente H. in August of 2009.

Also, Harlequin Ranches’ graded-stakes winning SPICE ROUTE looked like the winner in the G2 W.L. McKnight H. at Calder Race Course on December 26, 2009, but could not hold off the eventual winner, CLOUDY’S KNIGHT, to place second in the one-and-a-half mile turf race. The five-year old gelding by Kings Best ex Zanzibar is trained by Roger Attfield.

And, MALIBU KNIGHT won his first outing in a $24,700 MSP at Calder Race Course on December 26, 2009. The 07 Malibu Moon ex Tumble Me Right (JPN) colt was bred by Richard C. Colton, Jr. who continues to own the mare – a 2000 Forty Niner ex Ittisaal. MALIBU KNIGHT is the mare’s first runner.

October 28, 2009: Purchased 2 weeks before the Breeders’ Cup, MAN OF IRON won the BC Marathon on Friday, November 6, 2009, giving Kern Lillingtston back to back winners in this championship race. MUHANNAK, who was bred by Luke Lillingston’s Mount Coote Stud and purchased by the Kern Lillingston Association for a client won the inaugural running of the Marathon in 2008. IRON MAN is a 3-year old Giants Causeway colt who is a half to racing stars JAZIL and RAGS TO RICHES. He had looked to be a fast improving colt after winning a conditions race at Dundalk and came to the Breeders’ Cup under the training of Aiden O’Brien.Since winning the Marathon, his has been transferred to Luca Cumani’s barn where he will be pointed to the Dubai Carnival.

August 31, 2009: Lincoln Collins, in conjunctionwith Luke Lillingston, purchased AMBER TIDE as a yearling at the1999 Tattersalls October sale. They had purchased her half-sister, UNCHARTED HAVEN, at the same sale in 1998 and UNCHARTED HAVEN went on to become a multiple Grade 2 winner, including victories in the G2 San Clemente H. at Del Mar and the G2 San Gorgonio H. at Santa Anita. In her career AMBER TIDE, by Pusuit of Love ex Tochar Ban, landed in the money several times, but never saw the winner’s circle. It seems she was saving that honor for her 2004 colt by Ishiguru, named FERNELEY. The bay colt is trained by Ben Cecil and won the $300,000 G2 Del Mar H on August 29, 2009.
